Christmas this year was spent in Norway with JA’s parents and family. We had some good days there with plenty to eat and drink. We also managed to get to church on both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. For the service on Christmas Day, we went to the cathedral in Tønsberg, where the bishop held the sermon. It was a beautiful service with great music. Much to my relief, they use some of the same Christmas hymns in Norway, so I did not feel completely alienated.
Between Christmas and New Year’s Eve, we spent 3 days with my parents in Jutland. We got to see many of my relatives, and enjoy some relaxing days there, before we went back to Copenhagen to celebrate New Year’s Eve at our place with 14 friends (+ two babies). Two of our friends had established a party committee and decided that we should have a Swedish-themed party. So our apartment was decorated with Swedish flags, blue and yellow napkins, streamers etc.
After watching the big clock on the tower of the Copenhagen City Hall turn 12 (transmitted on TV so all of Denmark can say “Happy New Year” at the same time), we drank champagne, hugged, and went outside to watch the fireworks. 2009, here we come.
